Completion date:

2019-07-26

Location:

Ripley,

WV

Why did the customer contact us?

This Ripley, WV homeowner was dealing with cold drafts and dampness in the house and asked Reed’s for help.

Solutions provided:

Our crew sprayed mold treatment on all wood surfaces, dug trenches, laid drain pipe and installed a sump pump to carry away water seeping into the crawl space. We then laid 20-mil cord-reinforced liner over the entire crawl space and sealed every seam. Finally, we sprayed class 2 vapor barrier closed-cell foam on the walls and around the edges of the liner to complete the encapsulation.

What causes a wet crawl space in Ripley, WV

Ripley lies in the river valleys of western West Virginia, where humid air settles into low ground and summer moisture levels run high. Because of the stack effect, air from the crawl space is pulled up into the living area, so a musty crawl space becomes a musty house. Moisture in a crawl space also invites pests, because damp wood and soil attract termites, insects and rodents. Treating wood surfaces and sealing the space together stops existing mold growth and starves new growth of the moisture it needs.
