Job completed for Crawl Space Encapsulation with Dehumidifier in Hurricane, WV
Completion date:
2019-07-01
Location:
Hurricane,
WV
Why did the customer contact us?
This Hurricane, WV customer had heavy mold in the crawl space, and moisture was destroying the fiberglass insulation under the house. The result was odors and energy escaping through the crawl space.
Solutions provided:
Our crew lined the ground with a reinforced high- and low-density liner treated to resist mold and mildew. Our spray foam division then insulated the foundation walls with 2 inches of closed-cell foam to act as a continuous seal for the liner. A high-efficiency crawl space dehumidifier was installed and drained into a sealed sump pump system, and we finished with an access panel to keep outside air from entering when the space isn’t in use.
What causes a wet crawl space in Hurricane, WV
Moisture in a crawl space also invites pests, because damp wood and soil attract termites, insects and rodents. Warm, humid summers followed by cold snaps make condensation a regular problem on cool surfaces like ductwork, metal panels and subfloors. Plastic laid loosely over soil, or a liner with torn sections and unsealed seams, still lets ground vapor and air pass, so the space stays damp. Treating wood surfaces and sealing the space together stops existing mold growth and starves new growth of the moisture it needs.
